Technology

The AX3 is a data logger. It features a state of the art MEMS 3-axis accelerometer and Flash based on-board memory. The device incorporates a real time quartz clock and temperature sensor. The device is ideal for collecting longitudinal movement data.

Microprocessor

It is the Microprocessor's job is to talk to the host computer over USB, negotiate battery charging and to precisely keep the time. In simple terms, the microprocessor is the brain of the sensor.

NAND Memory

This memory chip is used to store all the data the microprocessor pulls from the sensors. Each sample is stored along with a precise time- stamp; this allows for accurate signal reconstruction. The data stored on the NAND Memory is in raw forma has error checking and correction (ECC) built in.

Accelerometer

This tiny component is about the size of a grain of rice. The accelerometer is used to detect movement, vibrations and orientation changes in all 3-axis at incredible precision. The accelerometer can be sampled at configurable rates and precision and simultaneously to other sensors.

Light

The light sensor can be used to help determine periods of wear as well as provide useful environmental data. It is tuned to wavelengths visible to the human eye and can be logged simultaneously to other sensor data.

RGB LED

The LED emits light in a wide variety of colours. It is controlled via the microprocessor and used to tell what state the sensor is in; charging, standby, recording or communicating to a host computer. The LED also has a “silent” logging mode where the LED is off during operation.

Temperature Sensor

The temperature sensor gives a rough sense of outside environment temperature and also if the sensor is being worn or not. It can also be logged simultaneously to other sensor data.
